Racist remarks by adult club members bring tears to children

The Creative Steps Day Care, a Philadelphia-area day care center, said Thursday, that members of a private swim club the organization had paid to attend, made racist comments about the center’s children to the point of bringing some of the young children to tears. Not to be outdone by its racist members, the swim club then quickly canceled the swimming privileges of all the children – from the day care center!

The Creative Steps Day Care children, ages kindergarten through seventh grade, went to The Valley Swim Club in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, on June 29. During their first visit, some children said they heard club members asking why African-American children were there. One of the young boys told the Philadelphia Inquirer that a woman at the club said she feared the children “might do something” to her child. Days later, the day care center’s $1,950 check was returned by the swim club without explanation. Club President John Duesler tells Philadelphia television station WTXF that several club members complained because the children “fundamentally changed the atmosphere” at the pool.
Frederico Maldonado and others gathered yesterday to protest alleged discrimination at the swim club in Huntingdon Valley.

Most reading this story are probably too young to remember the treatment of Sammy Davis Jr. by the casino where he and the rest of the famous “Rat Pack” group were performing. When a group of Texan “high-rollers” saw Mr Davis in the casino’s pool, they demanded the pool be completely drained and then refilled so they could “enjoy a proper swim”. Yes, we are being kind as I’m sure we all can imagine that different words were used by them, but you get the idea and the casino quickly complied. The other members of the “Rat Pack”, led by Frank Sinatra, refused to perform unless the casino apologized directly to Mr Davis, which they did and the incident never occurred again.

We believe a regime change is long overdue at The Valley Swim Club. The PA Health Department should also insist that its pool be drained and refilled as a precaution against further contamination by whatever sickness its current members may have brought to that community.

Sit down and shut up: alleged ex-”porn” star forced out of school job

Fox News Reports: Ex-Porn Star Quits School Cafeteria Job After Uproar

Let me ask a question.

Actually, I am not asking permission.

I am here to say, what is wrong with us?

Let’s pretend for a moment, there is a lovely woman.

The woman has made her living for some years as an “adult entertainer”. Whatever that means. If she is over 18 and TRULY exercises free will, economy, or pimps or whatever, have not forced her in the role, then………

So let’s pretend, one of the three:

a) she did so with free will; or
b) she did so without choice; or
c) she was forced into same.

Ok.

Now, we meet a woman, a woman, wanting to be who she is in this moment, someone who wants to work at a school, for, forgive me, less than $5,800.00 a year, and now, parents want her out?

Did I miss something?

Is she accused, convicted beyond a reasonable doubt of doing something to innocent children? (btw: all children are innocent).

Is there anyone out here that has spent a moment in Suburbia? How it is always others and not the inhabitants, that have skeletons?

I fear a projection of misconceived issues may be afoot.

I don’t know this woman portrayed in this Fox News article and now being publicly lambasted, but what I don’t see is any allegations as to how this woman treated children.

Really people, can we grow up and give our children a better model for the future?

This is a witch hunt, Salem circa 2008.

Don’t be a part of it.

The Matrix of Truth vs. Fiction vs. Perception

The New York Times ran a piece today:

The article addresses the potential for defamation as a result of published police blotters. It is an astute article entitled:

The Truth and Nothing but the Truth. Or Not.

By WOODY HOCHSWENDER: Published: May 20, 2007

I read the article and thought: yes! here we go, another viewpoint to make people grasp the power of the written word, speech and/or gossip.

The power of words to destroy.

But I got to the end of the article and was confused. This is how the article ended:

It is that human need to know about other people in trouble, to glimpse the dark side behind the hedgerow. If it is gossip, however, it is useful gossip. In areas where people have not become inured to violence, the police blotter casts a public spotlight on crime conditions and allows the community to respond, to take measures, before it gets out of hand.”

Are we saying that the potential to deter crime by publishing a police blotter is more vital than protecting the innocent? After all, the article in its 3rd paragraph promised me this as the reader:

The police blotter, however, is coming under scrutiny, especially with respect to its potential for defaming the innocent.”

Examples followed showing how innocent people came under scrutiny and became the subject of gossip, feuling people’s need perhaps to justify their own skeletons in the closet.

So how do we go from Point A, the potential to harm otherwise law abiding, innocent citizens, to Point B, it’s ok to do so in the name of deterring crime?

Maybe if there were viable statistics as to how it deters crime I would be left not confused and not posting about the article. Don’t most people who commit crimes do so because they believe they will get away with it or simply don’t care? If that principle is true, then how do police blotters deter crime?

How do we weigh the scale, either way you spin it, the concern is to protect the innocent, whether by deterrence of crime or by not feuling gossip about our neighbors that they can later not disprove.

Wonder what would happen if the Constitution had a provision, all people shall be free from gossip?
